Philosophy

At Trottin-Trottinette we recognize each child’s individuality and respect differences in learning aptitudes and speed. It’s important that the child feels secure and at ease in the environment which is attractive, child-sized, bright, warm and inviting. A great deal of time is spent preparing the environment and keeping it in order, clean and in good repair. Materials are exchanged from time to time during the year and when activities are brought in, the children are expected to handle the materials respectfully. There are firm limits against destructive and anti-social behavior.

Classroom activities are never conceived to promote or favour a particular religion. However, while keeping an open mind to all the different cultures, certain themes seen in class will refer to holidays traditionally celebrated in Canada.

We believe children at this age assimilate easily and quickly. They are exposed to a variety of activities both structured and “free” to help incorporate French in their academic and everyday lives. French language is taught to the children in positive and nurturing way.

All academic teachings incorporate an element of fun and are adapted to the children’s level of development. Our program is sufficiently flexible to respond to individual needs.

Francophonie:

Who can register his child for Trottin-Trottinette?

Before submitting a registration application, parents wishing to register their child within any of the programs must complete a form that must meet one of the following conditions:

  • The first language learned and still understood must be French.
  • They will have received their primary education in French in Canada (excluding immersion).
  • One of their children will have received instruction in French at the elementary or secondary level in Canada (excluding immersion).

Reliability:

The priority of Trottin-Trottinette is, without question, the safety of children. Trottin-Trottinette is a non-profit association, created by parents of students themselves. As such, nothing matters to us about the safety of children, the reliability of our teachers and educators and the hygiene of the premises. All staff have received training in education and hold a valid first aid certificate for early childhood.

In addition, a thorough criminal record check of all the staff is conducted prior to recruitment. As well, the facility is licensed under the Community Care Facility Licensing Act and is regularly inspected by the City of North Vancouver Department of Health.

Furthermore, the number of children in each classroom is closely aligned with the instructions of the Vancouver Coastal Health BC Child Care Licensing. Teachers spend a lot of time preparing classes that everyone strives to keep clean, tidy and in good condition. Children learn to respect places and materials.

Finally, in accordance with the André-Piolat School Emergency Plan, we submit to monthly fire drills and earthquake practices. We strive to ensure the well-being of children, teachers and educators.
